Abstract
Lactational insufficiency (Qilla al-Laban) is a frequent cause of early breastfeeding failure. Unani medicine identifies several Mudirr-i-Laban (galactagogues); among them, Maghz-e-Tukhme Pambadana (Gossypium herbaceum L.) is notable for enhancing milk production and vitality.
This review evaluates classical Unani literature and modern scientific findings regarding its galactagogue, nutritional, and endocrine-modulating properties. Traditional texts describe Pambadana as possessing vitality-enhancing and milk-promoting actions, while contemporary studies identify proteins, essential fatty acids, and phytosterols contributing to prolactin stimulation and endocrine regulation.
The findings suggest that Maghz-e-Tukhme Pambadana represents a safe, affordable, and nutritionally supported Unani therapeutic option for managing lactational insufficiency.
